Description
M17 Agar for Lactic Streptococci Cultivation | Premium Culture Medium for Dairy Products
Detailed Product Description
Elevate your microbiological research with M17 Agar, the ultimate culture medium for isolating and enumerating lactic streptococci in yogurt, cheese starters, and various dairy products. Formulated with high-quality ingredients like Soy Peptone, Yeast Extract, and Lactose, M17 Agar provides an optimal growth environment for these beneficial bacteria. The inclusion of Ascorbic Acid and Sodium β-glycerophosphate not only enhances growth rates but also buffers the medium against acidity produced during fermentation.
Key Features:
- Comprehensive Nutrient Profile: Contains essential nutrients and vitamins to support bacterial growth.
- Simple Preparation: Mix 55.0g of M17 Agar in one liter of distilled water, boil, sterilize, and it’s ready for use.
- Stable pH: Maintains a pH of 7.2±0.2 at 25°C, ensuring reliable and reproducible results.
- Long Shelf Life: Dehydrated medium can be stored for up to 3 years under proper conditions.

Directions:
To prepare, suspend 55.0g of M17 Agar in one liter of distilled or deionized water. Mix thoroughly, heat while agitating, and boil for 1 minute to dissolve completely. Dispense into flasks and sterilize in an autoclave at 121°C (15 lbs.) for 15 minutes.
Principle and Interpretation:
M17 Agar contains peptones and meat derivatives for carbon, nitrogen, vitamins, and minerals. Yeast extract provides B-complex vitamins, while Sodium β-glycerophosphate buffers acidity during lactose fermentation. Ascorbic acid promotes the growth of lactic streptococci, and magnesium sulfate supplies essential ions. Agar acts as the solidifying agent.
Appearance:
Dehydrated medium is a free-flowing yellowish powder, and the prepared medium forms a yellowish solid.
Precautions:
This medium is for laboratory use only. Do not use dried medium past its shelf life, or if it shows caking or color variation.
Storage Conditions and Shelf Life:
Store M17 Agar tightly capped in the original container at 5-30°C. The dehydrated medium has a shelf life of 3 years from the manufacturing date. Prepared medium should be stored away from direct light at 2-8°C.
Quality Control:
Inoculate and incubate at 36±1°C for 24-72 hours for optimal results.
Microorganism | Strains Number | Inoculum (CFU) | Growth | Recovery |
