Description

Cetrimide Agar (USP) for Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolation

Cetrimide Agar (USP) is an essential medium tailored for the isolation and identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a significant pathogen frequently encountered in clinical environments. This selective culture medium provides optimal growth conditions, which helps ensure accurate microbial analysis and diagnostics.

The formula features key components such as pancreatic digest of gelatin (20.0 g/L), magnesium chloride (1.40 g), potassium sulfate (10.0 g), cetrimide (0.3 g), and agar (13.6 g). Together, these ingredients create a robust environment conducive to the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Additionally, the final pH of 7.2 ± 0.2 at 25℃ maintains the medium’s stability and effectiveness.

To prepare Cetrimide Agar, you need to suspend 45.3 g of the product in 1000 mL of purified water. After that, add 10 mL of glycerin, boil the mixture, and mix thoroughly. Dispense the solution into a triangular flask and sterilize it in an autoclave at 121℃ for 15 minutes. Once the mixture cools to 50℃, pour the medium into sterile petri dishes to ensure optimal results.

You should store the prepared plates at room temperature to maintain their efficacy. Cetrimide Agar not only plays a vital role in isolating Pseudomonas aeruginosa but also supports various microbiological studies, making it a staple in clinical laboratories.

Furthermore, using Cetrimide Agar enhances testing accuracy and streamlines the identification process of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, known for its resistance to antibiotics. This medium aligns perfectly with current laboratory practices focused on efficient microbial isolation and precise diagnostics.

In summary, Cetrimide (USP) serves as a reliable tool for microbiologists aiming to isolate Pseudomonas aeruginosa effectively. Its carefully formulated ingredients and straightforward preparation process make it the preferred choice for consistent results in microbial testing.
