Description
OGYE Agar with Oxytetracycline for Yeast and Mold Isolation in Food Testing
Product Overview: OGYE Agar is a high-performance culture medium specifically designed for the isolation and enumeration of yeasts and molds in various food products. Enhanced with the antimicrobial agent oxytetracycline, this medium effectively suppresses bacterial growth, ensuring accurate results in microbiological analysis.
Key Features:
- Optimal Formula for Fungal Growth:
- Yeast Extract: 5.0 g/liter provides essential B-complex vitamins.
- Dextrose: 20.0 g/liter serves as the primary carbon energy source.
- Agar: 12.0 g/liter acts as a solidifying agent, creating a stable environment for fungal colonies.
- Ideal pH Balance:
- Maintains a final pH of 7.0 ± 0.2 at 25℃, promoting optimal microbial growth.
Directions for Use:
- Suspend 37.0 g of OGYE Agar in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water.
- Mix thoroughly and heat with frequent agitation, boiling for 1 minute to ensure complete dissolution.
- Dispense into triangular flasks and sterilize in an autoclave at 121℃ (15 lbs.) for 15 minutes.
- Once cooled to 50℃, aseptically add 100 mg of oxytetracycline, mix well, and pour into Petri dishes.
Principle and Interpretation:
OGYE Agar supports the growth of yeasts and molds by providing essential nutrients. The inclusion of oxytetracycline effectively inhibits bacterial growth, allowing for the accurate assessment of fungal contamination in food products.
Appearance:
- Dehydrated Medium: Free-flowing yellowish powder.
- Prepared Medium: Yellowish solid, ideal for cultivating yeast and mold.
Storage and Shelf Life:
- Store tightly capped at 5-30°C. The dehydrated medium has a shelf life of 3 years from the manufacturing date. Prepared medium should be stored at 2-8°C, protected from direct light.
Quality Control:
To ensure product reliability, inoculate and incubate the prepared medium at 22 ± 3℃ for 48-72 hours. Verify that it meets expected performance criteria.
Precautions:
- For laboratory use only. Do not use dried medium past shelf life or if it shows caking or color variation.
Why Choose OGYE Agar?
- Ideal for microbiological testing in food safety applications.
- Complies with industry standards for yeast and mold analysis.
- Essential for quality control in food production processes.
