Description
BPLS Agar is a highly effective culture medium specifically designed for the selective isolation and cultivation of Salmonella species from various samples, including food, feces, and pathological materials. This medium is essential for laboratories focusing on food safety microbiology, pathogen detection, and clinical diagnostics.
Key Features:
- Formulation: Each liter of BPLS Agar contains essential nutrients such as Peptic Digest of Animal Tissue, Pancreatic Digest of Casein, and Yeast Extract, which provide the necessary nitrogen and carbon sources for optimal bacterial growth.
- Selective Agents: The inclusion of Brilliant Green acts as a selective agent that inhibits the growth of coliform bacteria and gram-positive organisms, ensuring a pure culture of Salmonella.
- pH Indicator: Phenol Red serves as a reliable pH indicator, allowing for easy monitoring of medium conditions.
- User-Friendly Preparation: Simply suspend 51.0g of the dehydrated medium in one liter of distilled water, sterilize, and pour into sterile petri dishes.
Application:
BPLS Agar is utilized in:
- Food Safety Testing: Essential for detecting Salmonella in food samples, ensuring compliance with health regulations.
- Clinical Microbiology: Vital for diagnosing infections caused by Salmonella in patients.
Storage:
Store BPLS Agar tightly capped at 5-30°C. The dehydrated medium has a shelf life of 3 years from the manufacturing date. Prepared medium should be stored at 2-8°C, away from direct light, to maintain its efficacy.
Quality Control:
To ensure performance, inoculate and incubate the medium at 36±1°C for 18-48 hours.
BPLS Agar is your go-to solution for reliable and accurate detection of Salmonella, making it a crucial addition to any laboratory’s microbiological testing repertoire.
